The 2013 event is raising funds for the Doylestown Hospital Heart Institute, and local chapters of the national Girls on the Run organization.
On Saturday, June 22 from 11 to 11:30 a.m., Dr. Wilder will host her "Safety Town" event for those aged 6 to 10 years old. Training wheels welcome; helmets required!
Topics to be covered:
-Understanding the rules of the road.
-Right is right. Always ride on the right side of the road.
-How to ride in a group.
-How to avoid an obstacle.
-How to ride safely over sand and gravel.
-Turning skills.
-Hand signals: left, right, slowing, obstacle on the road and stopping.
Rationale:
Practicing your cycling skills in a safe setting is key to making good decisions when you encounter issues on a ride. Good decision making occurs more automatically when it is practiced by riders. Practice helps improve bicycling safety skills so that a rider learns to anticipate and avoid tricky situations.
The Cycle Bucks County event will be held at the New Hope-Solebury High School in New Hope, PA.
